Built Tough
Sunshine Coast Outdoor Tiling
Wet winters, blazing sun, pool water and bare feet—outdoor tiling needs to survive it all. At Sunny Tiling Co, based on Mount Coolum and servicing the Sunshine Coast from Noosa to Caloundra, we install outdoor tiles made for real conditions. That means slip-resistant surfaces, proper drainage, solid prep work and no shortcuts.
We create tiled patios, pathways, pool surrounds and alfresco areas that hold their look and shape through weather, wear and daily traffic. We also know how to work around slope, runoff and material expansion—details that matter once summer hits and the hose comes out.
If you're reworking your yard or planning a new build, we can also bring in trusted tradies for retaining walls, drainage or timber work. Get your free measure and quote today—reach out to our team on 0414 227 594.

Outdoor Tiling That Lasts Longer
Outdoor tiling isn’t just indoor work moved outside. Materials behave differently under sun and moisture, and surfaces need to be built with drainage and expansion in mind. We help you pick the right tiles for your layout—porcelain for its toughness, natural stone for texture or ceramic for lighter use spots.
We also assess your base. Uneven or crumbling concrete? We’ll prep or resurface it before laying a single tile. Need step edges or drainage channels? We’ll plan them in so water moves away, not under. Our goal is to give you an outdoor space that feels good underfoot and holds up through the seasons.
Whether it’s around a pool, on a deck or by your back door, we tile with care, purpose and long-term use in mind.
FAQ
Everything You Need To Know
What type of tile is best for outdoor areas?
Porcelain is one of the best options for outdoor tiling. It’s dense, less porous and can handle heavy foot traffic, rain and direct sunlight. For areas like pool surrounds, look for tiles with a slip rating of P4 or P5.
Natural stone like travertine or granite also works well but often requires sealing to protect it from water and weather damage. Avoid glossy tiles outdoors—they can be dangerously slippery when wet.
Do outdoor tiles need sealing?
Some do, some don’t. Porcelain tiles are usually fine without sealing due to their low porosity. However, natural stones—like slate, limestone or travertine—almost always need sealing to protect against stains, moss, mildew and moisture damage.
Sealing should be done during installation and reapplied as recommended by the manufacturer, typically every couple of years.
Can outdoor tiles go over concrete?
Yes, as long as the concrete is clean, level and in good condition. Cracks, chips or rising damp need to be addressed before tiling. A proper adhesive suited for outdoor use must be applied, and sometimes a primer or waterproofing layer is added depending on the environment.
Tiling over concrete can be an efficient way to refresh a tired patio or pathway if the base is solid.
